Mr. Versatility – Con Martin

Con Martin was born in Dublin, and was one of the special few,
Who played for both the Republic and for Northern Ireland too.
Ireland’s first ever substitute in 1946,
Deputising in a friendly match between the sticks.
Mr. Versatility, a centre half by trade,
He always gave his everything, wherever he was played.
Centre half, or right half, right or left full back,
He often played in goal as well, and not just for the craic.
Thirty caps he gained as Ireland’s best position-filler,
A role he had for eight years when he played for Aston Villa
