Midnight train to Georgia

Airfares (airfares, oh airfares)
Proved too much for the man.
(Ryanair don’t take you there)
So he decided to go overland.
He might well end up in Kazakhstan
(Or go off track down in Iraq)
So I’m going too
To hold his hand

And he’s leaving (leaving, he’s leaving)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on that midnight train)
And we’ll have some fun
And plenty of pints
And I’ll be with him (yes, I will)
On that midnight train to Georgia.
(Leaving on that midnight train)
I’d rather be in Tblisi
Than watch the game live in Mainz
(Mainz, Mainz, leaving on that midnight train)

How was he to know (he couldn’t know)
That the Russians would invade
(Don’t be silly, Saakashvili)
And events would then turn pettier?
But his railway ticket was already paid
(Intercity, what a pity!)
Before we’d even heard
Of South Ossetia.

And now he’s leaving (leaving, he’s leaving)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on that midnight train)
And we’ll have some fun
And plenty of pints
And I’ll be with him (yes, I will)
On that midnight train to Georgia.
(Leaving on that midnight train)
I’d rather be in Tblisi
Than watch the game live in Mainz
(Mainz, Mainz, leaving on that midnight train)
.
Doubtless some Irish fans will have been caught out by the sudden switching of the game from Tblisi to Mainz in Germany
